The only thing I noticed was that you used one word twice in a sentence.
the hooked nosed stranger turned and looked up at her... He gave her a meaningful look. Then once again in the next sentence,
just as her door opened and her father looked in. If you use a synonym I think it would not seem like you used the word so much... Just a suggestion.

Loved the end. i don't want to sound like I love stories with murder in them, but this one was written really well. Can't wait for more! :)
